플라즈마 클리너는 프로세스 챔버 안으로 낮은 압력(약 1~5 torr)의 프로세스 가스(일반적으로 O₂ 또는 Ar)를 흐르게 하고, 마이크로파 에너지를 가하여 플라즈마 방전을 발생시키는 장비이다.

이 과정을 통해 이온화 된 가스나 자유 라디칼 등이 생성되며, 챔버 내에서 물리적인 충돌 또는 화학적인 반응을 하여 표면의 불순물 제거 및 wettability 향상 등의 효과가 있다.
